The 'Sunshine City' in Geraldton

Not many cities in the world that have pristine coastline by one and majestic mountains rising on the other side. Geraldton in Western Australia not only that, but can also, with summer temperatures year-round sunshine, making it the perfect destination for anyone looking for some outdoor fun and adventure. Known as the "Sunshine City ', tourists flock to Geraldton for its perfect combination of location and climate. The locals are very friendly and feel the" rural city "of the city make it a warm and welcoming destination.

When discussing Geraldton its almost guaranteed that the Abrolhos Islands is mentioned in the same breath. This collection of 122 small islands located about 70 kilometers seaward from the coast Geraldton, and usually reached by boat or plane trips. It is the mecca for divers, and anyone with an appreciation for marine life will be fascinated by the undersea wealth around these islands. Just twenty five kilometers from the center of Geraldton, is a base camp here if you want to start very early in the water, or you could head back to town. Surfing is also popular in Geraldton, and there are a variety of surf breaks up the coast to suit all levels of experience.

There are plenty of attractions and architectural heritage in Geraldton, to provide a break from the sea and surf. Perhaps the most notable building is St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, designed by famed architect Monsignor Hawes. He started working on it in 1915 and was completed in 1938, and years of work were really worth it since it is considered one of his best works. Guided tours throughout the day giving you the chance to admire the columns, arches and stained glass of this special building. Another monument is popular with visitors to the HMAS Sydney memorial, which honors to 645 sailors from Australia lost a battle during World War 2 in 1941.The good ship in Sydney and his men were lost without trace after a fight with a German combat helicopter. The monument is beautiful and modern, consisting of a silver dome with 645 seagulls in it. Near a statue of a woman anxious question facing the sea.

There is also an element of class and sophistication to Geraldton, which is aggravated by the newly built marina, Batavia. The art walk winds along the water's edge, past the boat docks, houses, luxury townhouses and the Museum of Western Australia. Run to the door of an elegant new restaurant that is quickly gaining a reputation for good food. There is a very designer esque feel to the marina with modern art and old city around. While you're here be sure to check the boat Batavia, which is a replica of one that came ashore from a boat that ran aground on the Abrolhos Islands in 1629. While on the coast there was a mutiny on the ship that was damaged in more than 125 people dead, and this boat on display is a reminder of that tragedy.
